At The Chiropractic Health Center of Lees Summit we offer a discreet and professional atmosphere for all of your Paternity and DNA needs.
What does Paternity mean? Paternity means legally establishing who the father of a child is.
How is Paternity established? A paternity test is extremely accurate and results are determined through DNA testing of the child, mother and alleged father. A paternity test can be performed without the mother, however it is better to test the mother to eliminate her contribution to the child's DNA.
There are two types of paternity tests, private and legal. The only difference between the two types of tests is the documentation procedures used at the time of collection. The laboratory methods are identical. A private paternity test can be collected anonymously. Samples for a legal test must be collected or witnessed by a neutral third party with no interest in the outcome and proper verification of identity documented for each person.
Why is establishing paternity important? To ensure the child's well being and to fully protect
his or her rights. Knowing both parents gives a child a sense of belonging. It allows access to
legal and social benefits, including social security, veteran's and inheritance benefits. It also provides an accurate medical history for the child, giving the healthcare provider additional insight during diagnosis and in the managing the child's health.
What is required for a legal paternity test? For a court admissible paternity test you will need a photo Id, a birth certificate or a social security card or no# will be required for the child or children. Everyone involved will be photographed and adults will be fingerprinted. After the collection is done and the required paperwork has been signed sealed and initialed the samples will be sent to a local AABB accredited laboratory. All samples are sent within 24 hours of collection to ensure rapid results. Important note: Saturday collections are sent out first thing Monday morning. Most results are back in 3-5 business days. There is an additional charge for rush orders.
